What is a Prosthesis?

The object of a prosthesis is to replace the function and appearance of the missing limb. The prosthesis is a life changing aid which facilitates physical, social and psychological rehabilitation and well-being.

A prosthetic limb generally comprises of a socket encasing the residual limb (stump) and the prosthetic hardware, also referred to as components. The components will differ depending on the prosthetic, i.e. artificial foot, knee or hand etc.
