Barriers to Independent Living

Barriers to independent living include:

  • Financial restraints within the NHS to deliver choice regarding the type of prosthetics and assistive technologies available to amputees.
  • Limited resources within the support and social services
  • Limited counselling support Inconsistent benefits system
  • Poor disabled access to transport services
  • Poor access to everyday public services and facilities
  • Lack of access to accessible housing
  • Lack of understand of the capability of disabled people from the employment sector
  • Lack of understanding of the capability of disabled people form the general public
