ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A dog who chewed his feet off to free himself from a trap in Houston, Alaska last winter got a new chance at a life on all fours.
Andre was found thin and near death hiding beneath a trailer, but more than a year later he’s made a good recovery and learned to wobble along on two legs.
That’s about to change thanks to a special clinic in Denver: Andre’s being fitted with custom-made prosthetic feet.
“It will be an interesting challenge for him as he learns, instead of having to survive with two legs, how he can actually thrive on all four,” said OrthoPets founder Martin Kaufmann.
Andre went for a test run Wednesday and seemed to do just fine. He’s even signed up to run in Denver’s furry scurry this weekend.
And hopes are, in a few weeks, to find him an adoptive family in the area so he’ll have access to the clinic for further checkups and adjustments to his feet.
