...and soon he is back up again in the company of the Prime Minister and former England Rugby Captain, Lawrence Dallaglio

Derek Derenalagi, 34, from Watford, a private in the 2nd Mercians, was at Downing Street with former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio to promote the Help for Heroes charity.

The Fijian lost both legs in 2007 when an improvised explosive device went off under the Land Rover in which he and his colleagues were travelling.

The former rugby player has just completed his first season as a paralympic athlete. He has joined the Ministry of Defence’s Battle Back scheme and hopes to compete at the London 2012 Paralympics.

He was treated at Headley Court, the medical rehabilitation centre.
